Starting from 8 April 2025, more Accredited Employer Work Visa applicants will be eligible for interim visas, allowing them to work in New Zealand for the duration of their interim visa conditions.
To qualify, applicants must:
Hold either a work visa or a student visa that permits work during term time;
Have applied for an AEWV; and
Receive their Interim Visa on or after 8 April 2025.
The new interim visa conditions will allow applicants to work for the accredited employer and in the job specified in their AEWV application, helping them start work sooner.
For those planning to apply for a Work to Residence Visa, time spent working on an interim visa can count toward their New Zealand work experience requirement according to INZ.
If you previously held an AEWV, the time spent on an interim visa with these conditions will count toward the maximum period you can stay in New Zealand on an AEWV. If you hold a different visa, your maximum stay period will begin once your AEWV is approved.
